Yesterday, we thought we would go to Great Falls NP (on the Virginia side). We were going to meet a friend there and take some pictures and walk around. Unfortunately, we didn't realize how popular that park was and the traffic to it was backed up quite a ways. We were near the turnoff towards the park, when two firetrucks barrelled in. At that point, we decided that perhaps we should try something else.
So we opted to go to the Maryland side. My friend had never been there and so we visited the falls overlook and then walked down the path. Everywhere we went, there were tons of people, as the weather was absolutely perfect. The falls themselves were gorgeous. The water level had come down from a week ago and the sky was absolutely clear.
Moving down the trail, we went down to the water and watched an area which seemed to be quite popular with the herons. I was feeling an itch for a longer lens. We could see several heron coming and going and there were usually half a dozen on these rocks.
After walking around, we had to find a place to eat and ended up in Glen Echo at the The Old Irish Inn. It was a great dinner. We were tired when we got home at 10 pm.
