It is definitely that time where the weather can't decide if it should be summer or fall. I have a few pictures representative of this time of transition.
The first is a magnolia pod (or whatever it is you call it after the bloom is gone). I found that they were very interesting -- red and fuzzy.
The second was the last of the canna lillies, blooming about a block from my office. They don't photograph very well, so I was pleased to see the detail in the petals.
Finally, I have been keeping my eye on the monarch butterfly caterpillars that were going through our milkweed plants. When I got home yesterday, my husband pointed to the new chrysalis that had appeared in the asparagus plant. There were two caterpillars and I have yet to find the second one. I will be watching this chrysalis and hopefully will capture the metamorphosis to a butterfly.
