So today was an unbelievably gorgeous fall day in Maryland. This comes after an incredibly rainy week with more than 5" of rain. The temperatures were in the 60's and it was clear and dry. My husband and I have both been very busy but with today's weather, we decided to take a break to go canoeing. We were out relatively early -- 3pm. I commented that I had better bring my camera because if I didn't we would see the bald eagles.
Of course, it was such a great day that we did see the bald eagles. They were soaring so high up that all i could tell, with a 300mm lens that it had a white head and tail and a dark body. Being so close to home, I guess this is still really cool.
Our luck with the other birds. We started out seeing a magnificant osprey. I must be getting better because the pictures have improved.
Sometime afterwards, we saw a huge heron. He was a bit skittish and flew off. Then we saw another one and had to choose which to follow. Well, we chose wisely as the other one joined the one we followed.
Finally, as we were heading in we saw an osprey doing some strange hovering maneuvers. As I was getting my camera out, my husband saw it dive in the water and catch a fish. We were able to get close enough to see it and its meal before it flew off. Quite impressive....
