I got up early this past Saturday and headed down to the Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens in DC. The weather was wonderful -- cooler and less humid. Being there my first time, I was pleasantly surprised by the number of water lillies. The giant water lillies were amazing with an entire pond of lillies standng 4-6' high. I believe these were night blooming and many were open or opening in the morning. As the morning progressed, the smaller lillies (with their lilly pads floating on the water) opened their blooms.
In addition to the flowers, there were lots of other things to photograph. I was amazed at some of the dragonflies. I was able to capture several of them. I found the butterflies to be a bit more skittish than in my own yard. And there were lots of eastern painted turtles.
