Today was one of those rare mild and sunny winter days in DC, and it was certainly a day to get out for a lunchtime walk. As I approached the White House and Lafayette Park, I could see protestors. Its not an unusual place for them, but I noticed there were a LOT of them, many holding flags and banners. With the Chinese president visiting the White House, there were dozens of groups organized and came out for their cause. There was the causes to end Chinese rule over Taiwan, end the violence, free certain citizens, etc. There was even one sign which was thanking the US. It was amazing to me to see all the red flags waving alongside the stars and stripes. Who would have ever thought we would see the flags of these two countries flying side-by-side? I don't think the security folks were having a good day, but I was hopeful by all the messages I saw.
