I was at Brookside Gardens performing in a hammered dulcimer ensemble as part of their lights festival. As always, I stopped in their gift shop. A lovely amaryllis caught my eye. It was in full-bloom (or slightly past) with 5 lovely blossoms on its stem. It was discounted for half price, i.e. $12.50 and even though I have more plants than i know what to do with, I could not help myself. As expected the blooms did not even really last that long but we enjoyed it while we could.
The bonus to this, was that the plant was growing a second shoot. Well, the shoot got taller and taller, and the first of 6 blooms opened this week. It is a magnificent flower and I will be photographing it as it progresses. Here is one of the first I took of an open bloom, a bud, and a seed pod from the first set of booms.
